After the Dance

This painting was done as an homage to the beautiful artwork of the 19th century. The orange cloth is meant to evoke Frederic Leighton. The costume, Godward and Tadema. The tripods are also a nod to Tadema. The inlay on the chair is a nod to Alexander Cabanel. The 'dance' referred to in the title is the classical and academic movement of the 19th century. It is an optimistic piece that we can continue building on the ideals of that time period, while moving forward.
